LeanIX import

Caplo can import LeanIX workspaces from a full snapshot export. LeanIX imports are currently done by Caplo, not as a self-serve upload in the product.

That is intentional: the LeanIX data model does not map one-to-one onto Caplo. Fact sheet types, fields, and relations need careful choices so the result stays useful in Caplo's metamodel, repository, diagrams, and reports. Caplo helps choose the best practical mapping for your workspace.

What to export

LeanIX customers most often export their workspace as a multi-sheet Excel workbook using Administration → Export → Full Snapshot.

Snapshot layout

A typical full snapshot workbook contains:

Sheet kindExamplesContents
Fact sheet sheetsApplication, BusinessCapability, Process, DataObject, …One sheet per fact sheet type. Row 0 holds field keys, row 1 holds labels, then one row per fact sheet.
Relation sheetschildParentRelation, applicationProcessRelation, …One sheet per relation type, linking fact sheets by name and type.
TypesEnum vocabulary for select-style fieldsOptional option lists keyed by fact sheet type and field.
Meta sheetsReadMe, TagGroups, Tags, Documents, CommentsExport metadata and content Caplo does not import today.

What Caplo imports

Caplo maps LeanIX fact sheets to Caplo entity types, fields to Caplo properties where useful, and relations to Caplo relation types. Tags, tag groups, documents, comments, and subscriptions are skipped for now.

Shared LeanIX Lifecycle date columns map onto Caplo Phase in / Phase out on every imported fact sheet type that has those fields:

  • Lifecycle: phaseIn and Lifecycle: active become Caplo Phase in. If only one date is set (often only active), it is stored as an exact day. If both are set, they become the Phase in window.
  • Lifecycle: phaseOut becomes Caplo Phase out as an exact day.
  • Lifecycle: endOfLife is when support stops, not retirement. Caplo does not map it onto Phase out. The importer can create a custom date field for that column if you want to keep it.

How to get a LeanIX import

  1. Export a Full Snapshot from LeanIX (Administration → Export → Full Snapshot).
  2. Contact Caplo with the workbook and the target Caplo workspace.
  3. Caplo reviews the export, agrees a mapping with you where needed, and loads the data.
  4. After import, review entities and relations in Caplo and clean up anything that should differ for your metamodel.

If you are evaluating a move from LeanIX, share a snapshot early. Mapping quality is much better when Caplo can see the real fact sheet types and relation inventory in your export.
