Confluence integration

The Confluence integration lets you embed a Caplo diagram directly inside a Confluence page. Instead of pasting a screenshot that goes stale, you embed the diagram once and the page shows the latest saved version every time someone opens it.

Install the app

The integration is an Atlassian Forge app. Install it into your Confluence site from the Atlassian developer console:

Install the Caplo app in Confluence

You need permission to install apps on your Confluence site. If you do not, share the link with your Confluence administrator.

Embed a diagram in a page

  1. Install the app using the link above.
  2. Edit the Confluence page where you want the diagram.
  3. Insert the Caplo macro (type /Caplo in the editor, or pick it from the macro list).
  4. Sign in to Caplo inside the macro if prompted.
    • Google or Microsoft: a small sign-in popup opens; complete the provider flow and the popup closes itself, returning you to the macro.
    • Email / password: sign in directly inside the macro.
  5. Choose the workspace and the diagram you want to embed.
  6. Save and publish the page.

Only shared diagrams in the selected workspace can be embedded. Personal diagrams are not listed in the picker.

How it stays up to date

The embedded diagram shows the latest saved version of the diagram, fetched each time the Confluence page loads. It is not a live collaborative canvas, so you cannot edit the diagram from inside Confluence, and very recent edits appear after the diagram autosaves (usually within a few seconds). Refresh the Confluence page to pick up newer changes.

Access and permissions

  • Each viewer of the Confluence page signs in to Caplo inside the embed and only sees diagrams they are allowed to see in Caplo.
  • The embed respects your normal Caplo workspace permissions — installing the macro does not bypass them.
  • If a viewer has no access to the workspace, the diagram will not load for them.

Troubleshooting

Google or Microsoft sign-in does nothing

Social sign-in opens in a small popup window. If nothing opens, your browser likely blocked the popup — allow pop-ups for your Confluence site and try again. If the popup still does not appear, check that your Confluence admin has upgraded the Caplo Forge app after the latest deploy.

The diagram does not load

Make sure the viewer is signed in to Caplo inside the embed and has access to the diagram's workspace.

My diagram is not in the picker

Only shared diagrams are listed. Move the diagram out of your personal space, or make sure it belongs to the workspace you selected.

I see an old version of the diagram

The embed shows the latest saved snapshot. Wait a few seconds for autosave to finish, then refresh the Confluence page.
